> Alternative Tours

As new kind of tour, “alternative” tours focus on the
political history of Israel-Palestine, and cover current events
and perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These tours
offer a ”down and dirty” look at every day life in the Middle East,
and go far off traditional tour routes.
Alternative tours are excellent for students, educators, practitioners, and anyone else interested in
gaining a first-hand understanding about the turmoil in the Middle East. SETI’s alternative tours are
also unique in that they often involve NGO’s, politicians, local educators, and religious leaders as guest
guides or speakers.
Activities often featured in Alternative Tours include:
- Visits to settlements and Palestinian refugee camps;
- Tours of the Separation Wall / Security Fence;
- Meeting with people from Sderot (an Israeli town near Gaza often affected by rockets);
- Tour of Lifta, a Palestinian village that was depopulated in 1948;
- Overnight stay in a kibbutz;
- Sessions with “Refuseniks” (Israeli conscientious objectors) and Palestinian ex-militants;
- Visits to the Holocaust Museum (Yad Vashem) and Har Hertzel;
- Arab and Hebrew cultural evenings and music performances;
- Meetings with Israeli and Palestinian security officials and politicians;
- Lectures by educators from Hebrew University, Bethlehem University, Tel Aviv University,
and Al Quds University, (etc.); - Travel to the Golan Heights;
- … and many other interesting activities!
